About Sophie

I grew up in Australia, completing my Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at Deakin University in Geelong,Victoria. I then came to America to spend an exchange year in the architecture program at North Carolina State University before returning to Australia to complete the graduate degree now known as the Master of Architecture.

I worked in several commercial architecture firms in Australia, but it was here, at NCSU in Gail Lindsey's Studio class, that I realized that my heart was in sustainable residential design. I have been designing homes and renovations in Carrboro since 1996, always trying to bring to the projects a sensitivity for the unique needs and personalities of the clients, as well as to the impact our work has on the earth. My goal is to benefit from all that the environment offers us while giving back as much as possible.

Sophie Piesse Architect, PA, is a full service architecture firm that takes a team approach to make building or renovating your home an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

About Luisa

I grew up in Colombia, South America and received my Bachelor’s of Architecture from the Universidad del Valle, in Cali, Colombia. My passion for art, design and nature was cultivated by living with artistic parents in the tropical mountains outside of Cali.

I came to the United States and to North Carolina with a work-study program in 2002 and was attracted by the sense of community in Carrboro.  After working as an architect in Colombia for a couple of years I returned to Carrboro where I have collaborated with several local architecture firms since 2005. The diversity and design sensitivity encouraged me to establish roots and raise my children here.

I have completed my NCARB education requirements and am in the process of obtaining my architecture license. The dynamics of residential design are fascinating to me. The opportunity to transform an idea, a dream, an image into a final product that will be enjoyed every day is my motivation to follow this path.

I live in the Pacifica co-housing community in Carrboro with my husband and two daughters.
